The Competition Tribunal has approved, with public interest conditions, the proposed merger in which Langeberg Foods (Pty) Ltd (Langeberg Foods) will acquire Langeberg & Ashton Foods, a division of Tiger Consumer Brands Ltd (the target business). Upon implementation of the merger, Langeberg Foods will have sole control of the target business.

The Competition Tribunal has approved, with public interest conditions, the proposed merger in which Langeberg Foods (Pty) Ltd (Langeberg Foods) will acquire Langeberg & Ashton Foods, a division of Tiger Consumer Brands Ltd (the target business). Upon implementation of the merger, Langeberg Foods will have sole control of the target business.
Langeberg Foods is a special purpose vehicle incorporated for the purposes of this transaction.
The target business sells its products under its own branding and through dealer-owned branding. It also sells unbranded products i.e. ingredients. Its products, distributed within South Africa and exported worldwide, include the following:
- Fruit such as peaches, pears, apricots, apples and guavas which are canned to preserve their freshness over extended periods;
- Dried fruit such as peaches and apricots; and
- Fruit purees produced by pulping fresh fruit, concentrating it through evaporation and packaging it into steel drums.
