Tribunal approves Hong Kong company settlement with Commission

The Tribunal has approved an agreement between the Competition Commission and Hong Kong-based iFlight Technology Co Ltd (iFlight), in which the company admits that it engaged in the practice of minimum resale price maintenance in relation to the sale of drones.

In terms of the settlement, iFlight has agreed to pay an administrative penalty of R139 400.00 (one hundred and thirty nine thousand, four hundred rand).

The matter stems from a complaint to the Commission and a subsequent investigation that found iFlight had required a local distributor of drones, Smashtronics, to sell its drone products at a specified minimum retail price in May 2017.

Among others, iFlight has also agreed to: resume supplying Smashtronics subject to supply availability; and develop, implement and monitor a competition law compliance programme.
