Search Help

The search facility is designed to search for documents according to a set of criteria: Applicant, Respondent, Case number, Case Rating, Decision Date, a time range (Date From: Date To) and Keywords (as assigned by the Competition Tribunal).

Applicant

The Applicant search field allows you to retrieve a decision by searching for the applicant in the proceedings before the Tribunal. Please note, that whenever an application is made on behalf of several applicants, you should enter in the search box the name of only one of the subjects involved.

Respondent

The Respondent search field allows you to retrieve a decision by searching for the respondent in the proceedings before the Tribunal. Please note, that whenever the case involves several respondents, you should enter in the search box the name of only one of the subjects involved.

Case Number

Use this feature to retrieve a decision using its case number, as assigned by the Competition Tribunal. Please use the exact format of the case number to perform your search, for example: 92/IR/Oct00 retrieves the decision in the Nationwide Airlines and South African Airways case.

Case Rating

The case rating system was developed to aid researchers and practitioners in accessing Tribunal decisions with a differentiated level of importance (1-low, 2-medium, 3- high). While all Tribunal decisions carry the same legal weight, the ones marked with a level 3 – high importance by the Tribunal could be deserving of special attention by researchers and practitioners. The Tribunal will be assigning rating to cases uploaded on the system from 15 October 2006 onwards and will be gradually re-assessing older decisions.

Decision Date

The Decision Date field allows you to search for a decision delivered on a particular date. The format that the system accepts is mm/dd/yyyy.

Date from : Date to

This field allows for the retrieval and display of cases decided within a user-specified date range. The format for entering the date is mm/dd/yyyy

Keywords

Please note that the current search facility is metadata-based search and not a full-text search into our decisions database.

The Keywords section allows you to search for Tribunal decisions based on pre-assigned set of keywords. You can either use the drop-down menu of preset keywords to ensure you retrieve cases of interest to you, or use your own keywords, separated by comma.

You can retrieve a case, described by several keyword by entering a keyword (or a group of keywords) in the two boxes provided for the purpose and separated by the AND operator.

The Tribunal will be assigning keywords to decisions uploaded on the system from 15 October 2006 onwards and will be gradually re-assessing older decisions.
